Could April be Tignes best kept secret?!?

April could be Tignes’ best kept secret. The last few years has seen heavy snow falls in the last few months of the season. This increasing trend has meant that combined with the warmer, sunnier and longer days, some of the seasons best skiing is to had in April and the first week in May. It’s not just that the snow conditions are great (this year in particular, so it doesn’t look like it will change in the near future!!) or that you can get a tan on the mountain at the same time but that it is easily the quietest part of the winter season. This means that you can enjoy your skiing without queuing at the lifts and without feeling crowded on the slopes.

On top of this a lot of travel companies and hotels have reduced prices on accommodation – check out our April specials and last minute deals at the end of next winter. You will also find that flight companies such as easy jet reduce their prices to Geneva and Lyon especially when compared to the busier skiing periods.

May 7th – Powder Day!?!?! Just when we thought it was all over - the weather turned. Having enjoyed weeks of sunny days, on the 6th the rain started to fall. However, this was just down in the resort. When we got up on the Sunday and got to the top of the funiculaire there was an unbelievable 40cms of fresh snow!! When the clouds cleared and with not many more than 100 people on the whole mountain we enjoyed some of the best runs we had had all winter. Although there weren’t many others to enjoy this with, with one phone call we did manage to get the boys from the Jam Bar out of bed to finish the winter off. With the Glacier to ourselves what a final day!! By all accounts there was even more on the 8th but we were well on our way back to the UK by then. And with the lifts closed May 9th saw 50cms settle down as low as the lake! See what we mean!!
