European Beach Soccer League, from 28 to 30 July
After the 2006 World Cup, Tignes offers you the chance to watch soccer with a beach atmosphere in the heart of the mountains! Bikinis, hot sand, and international soccer teams in action!!
From 28th to 30th July, the ex Manchester United captain and French International star, Eric Cantona is back in town for the Tignes Masters Beach Soccer tournament. This is the third summer in a row that Cantona has organised this increasingly popular event. For the last two years, tonnes of sand were dumped onto the area in Val Claret that normally makes up the car park and tennis courts to make up the 'beach' style pitch. This year a huge stadium was built in Le Lac for the international teams to battle it out for the cup over the 3 days.
After their tour of Rio, Bangkok, etc., Cantona and the boys are coming to Tignes. A 'hot' atmosphere is guaranteed unfortunately the Brazilians weren't able to make it this year but there is plenty of other talent to look out for!!
It's a sport in its own right. Straight from Brazil via California, beach soccer is a unique and original version of the world's favourite sport!
According to Tignes' local tourist office it's not one to miss:
