Shops
The main shopping areas are in Val Claret and Le Lac. Although there are shopping areas in all the villages, lower down the mountain Les Boisses aka Tignes 1800 only has a few shops but it is an ever-changing area so more coming soon. There are shops to cater for all your tastes and needs. In true French style the shops tend to open quite early in the morning (about 8am) and close at noon for a two-or four-hour lunch break, they then reopen until around 7pm so plan your visit accordingly. There is also a Market that comes to town twice a week and can be found in Le Lac, it is a great place to buy local produce.
You could even ski down to Val d’isere but be careful they have a shopping centre!
Equipment and Clothes
Tignes is no shopping mecca, but there are a reasonable number of ski and souvenir shops to browse in. You can hunt for bargains in the ubiquitous Intersport shops (Le-Lac and Val Claret), with rack upon rack of ski gear and clothing. Snowboarders will enjoy checking out specialist stores Snowpark, Snocool (both Le Lac) and Black Cats (Val Claret). The Galerie Palafour (Le Lac) has a few fashion and souvenir shops.
Supermarkets
There are now several supermarkets in Tignes.. all opening around 7am in the morning and closing around 7-8pm each evening. Beware though… some of them shut at lunchtime as the French love to do! If you are driving up to Tignes it is always a good idea to stop at SUPER U in Bourg St Maurice to get your weekly essentials as it is alot cheaper than all the supermarkets in the resort.
Le Lavachet: - There is a Sherpa here which has been renovated for the 2014/15 season.
Le Lac: There is now a Casino, 2 Spar's (one small one which is quite expensive!) and Carrefour in Lac - so plenty of choice.
Val Claret: There are two Sherpa's in Tignes - one on each level.
*It's worth noting that the supermarkets do get quite busy after skiing so if you can.. its a good idea to go at a different time in the day!
